4. Axehead Mould from Stittenham
This steatite (soapstone) mould would have been used to make socketed bronze axeheads at the very end of the Bronze Age or beginning of the Iron Age. Found with metalworking remains, it provides rare evidence in Scotland for metalworking. It shows that axeheads were being made in the Highlands, similar to the one found at Tarradale, Muir of Ord (below) Images © Graham Clark
