Artefacts and evidence of human habitation from over 5,000 years ago can be found throughout Ardross, and are still being identified. Above is a prehistoric saddle quern found at Ardross House used to grind grain.

Cup-marked stones such as the one below in Strath Rusdale can be found in many places, but unlike the quern above their purpose is unknown. The Canmore website has an extensive catalogue of prehistoric finds throughout Scotland including these mysterious marked stones.
