2. Carved Stone Ball from Balnaguisch
Carved stone balls date to the Neolithic period and are uniquely Scottish, mainly found in Aberdeenshire. Most are about tennis ball size, but vary in the number of knobs with six most common. A small cluster have been found in the Ardross area, including others at Contullich and at the top of Beinn Tharsuinn. No one is sure of their function. They may have been used in games, as lucky charms, as weapons on short sticks, status symbols or in rituals. The Balnaguisich ball is on display in Inverness Museum.
